Costasecca is a product of excellence from Umbria. It is produced in Montefalco, in the province of Perugia, by Azienda Agricola Le Thadee, which harvests its grapes in vineyards located about 300 metres above sea level, on gently undulating hills that offer ideal conditions for growing vines. Here the climate is temperate, with warm summers and cool winters, while the soil is characterised by a composition of clay and limestone that allows the production of wines with mineral notes and a strong personality. Costasecca is a blend of Sangiovese (60%), Merlot (15%), Cabernet Sauvignon (15%) and Sagrantino (10%). Sangiovese, in particular, the symbolic grape variety of central Italy, gives structure and freshness to the wine, while Merlot brings softness and fruity notes and Cabernet Sauvignon adds complexity and aromatic intensity, with herbaceous and spicy nuances. Finally, the role of Sagrantino, a native Umbrian grape famous for its tannicity and power, is fundamental. Vinified in steel tanks, with temperature control, maceration lasts from 10 to 18 days, depending on the grape variety. The wine is then matured for six to nine months on its fine lees, with regular bâtonnage that enriches the wine's structure and increases its complexity. Finally, the wine rests in the bottle for four months before being put on the market. Garnet red, on the nose the Costasecca is characterised by a rich and intense bouquet, with notes of ripe plum, blueberry, violet and black cherry. A slight hint of black pepper adds a pleasant spiciness. In the mouth it is full and fruity, with good acidity that makes it fresh and lively. The tannins are well integrated, crisp but balanced, and give the wine a pleasantly lively and persistent feel. Ideal to accompany traditional Italian dishes.
