Rosé wines - Umbria

Umbria is located in central Italy and is defined as the green heart of the country. The dense forests and vast hills, together with the ancient mediaeval towns, preserve history and tradition, offer typical specialities, including fine wines and precious truffles.

The territory of this region is particularly suited to the cultivation of vines and olive trees. The wine-growing history dates back to the Etruscans, but the qualitative leap in Umbrian wines occurred in the 1960s, with the first DOC and DOCG recognized.

Production today is divided between white wines and red wines and the most cultivated grape varieties include Sangiovese and Merlot among those with blackberries and Grechetto and Trebbiano Toscano among the white grape varieties. Other relevant and characteristic vines of the area include Sagrantino, Montepulciano, Barbera and Gamay, in the Lake Trasimeno area.
