Friuli-Venezia Giulia is historically known as an area from which white wines of unquestionable quality come. The production of white grape varieties accounts for 70% of all wine production in the region. Also worthy of note is the heritage of indigenous Friulian grape varieties, which is distinguished by the presence of Tocai Friulano, Verduzzo Friulano, Picolit and Vitovska. Other white grapes from the area include Ribolla Gialla, Malvasia Istriana, Gewürztraminer, Müller-Thurgau, Rhine Riesling and Riesling Italico.
