"Castellano" Rosso Piceno DOC Superiore 2021
  • The legend of Ripatransone, in the province of Ascoli Piceno, tells of Transone, a mysterious knight who guarded the city gates with his helmet and shining armour. He was able to recognise, with a single glance, the intentions of those who wished to enter. This interesting Rosso Piceno Superiore DOC is dedicated precisely to this 'Castellano', a protective and honourable figure. It is proposed by the Cantina dei Colli Ripani, a Cooperative Society, made with grapes from the restricted Rosso Piceno production area, where the vines enjoy an ideal climate and terroir for ripening. The wine is made from Montepulciano (70%) and Sangiovese (30%) grapes, a combination that gives body, character and depth to the wine. Harvesting, which takes place in the second ten days of October, is strictly manual. This careful and traditional process allows for a careful selection of the grapes, which are then harvested in boxes. During vinification, the wine undergoes a long maceration with the skins and is then subjected to a deléstage process, followed by soft pressing. These methods ensure the extraction of aromas, colour and tannins, enriching the wine with complexity and structure. In the glass, it has a beautiful intense red colour, enriched with garnet reflections. Woody and jammy notes emerge on the nose. An enveloping and persistent perfume. In the mouth, on the other hand, Castellano reveals a round and fruity taste, with distinctive notes of prune and sour cherry. Its tannic texture is refined and elegant, making it perfect in combination with mixed roasts and grilled meats, the ideal companion for convivial dinners and special moments.

Colli Ripani: building our future one step at a time. We are in the Marche region, in the hilly area that follows the river valleys to the Adriatic. And we are about 500 metres above sea level, yet incredibly close to the coast. This is where the Cantina dei Colli Ripani is located, one of the best known and most productive wineries in the region. Founded in 1969, the first winemaking took place in 1977. Today, it can count on the work of more than 330 'native' producers, united by the desire to enhance local wine production and in particular the area's good grape varieties, such as Sangiovese, Montepulciano, Pecorino and Passerina. The Cantina Cooperativa concretely supports the work of each member and coordinates all stages of the process: from work in the countryside to the processing of raw materials, to the marketing of the finished product. This allows the members to receive a fair agricultural income, guaranteeing the sustainability of their work and the preservation of ancient traditions.
