Those proposed by Durin, a fine Ligurian family business, are not ordinary wines but 'extreme', due to the conditions in which they are produced. The winery's vineyards, in fact, grow in impervious and fragmented areas in various parts of the Arroscia Valley in western Liguria. This is also where the grapes are grown, 100% Syrah, harvested in the vineyards of Ortovero, from which this Colline Savonesi IGT, U Picettu, is made, a very pleasant red, perfect on more than one occasion. In the glass it is a deep ruby red colour, the nose is rich and persuasive. It is reminiscent of blackberry and cherry that gradually become more intense, accompanied by spicy notes of black pepper and undergrowth. In the mouth, however, the tannin is pleasant and velvety, perfectly integrated in a full and harmonious taste, with a savoury and persistent finish. U Picettu lends itself to accompany tasty first courses such as risotto with porcini mushrooms. It is ideal with grilled meats, roasts, game and medium-aged cheeses.
