In the municipality of Castagnito, in the province of Cuneo, there is a particular hill called Costa. A magical place and historically suited for the production of the Nebbiolo vine, from which a wine of great finesse and elegance is obtained. The vineyard from which the grapes for this Cascina Chicco red wine come has an average age of 20 years, and is worked in such a way as to obtain a deliberately low yield per vine. This is important if you want to bring an excellent raw material into the cellar, indispensable for producing a quality Nebbiolo. Careful vinification and ageing in traditional containers for six months make this Langhe Nebbiolo a very pleasant wine. Ruby red with garnet reflections, it has ethereal and elegant aromas. There is a clear hint of violet, typical for the variety, and marasca cherry. With evolution, a particular spicy vein appears. In the mouth it is delicate, full and aristocratic. A wine to accompany roasts, game and mature cheeses.
‘We have chosen to make wine from the territory’. With these words Enrico and Marco Faccenda, the current owners of Cascina Chicco, welcome visitors to their website. A clear message that leaves no room for misunderstanding. The company's debut dates back to 1950, the year in which Ernesto Faccenda bought the first hectare of land a few steps from Canale, in the heart of the Roero. He was a charcuterie maker by profession but had already sensed the potential of viticulture in the heart of Piedmont. Thus was born the first family production of Nebbiolo and Barbera d'Alba, which was sold in demijohns or as bulk wine. Then, in 1970, the company passed into the hands of Federico Faccenda, Ernesto's son, who gave further impetus to his father's business, starting to bottle under the family name. The baton was picked up, years later, by his sons, Enrico and Marco, who in the early 2000s gave life to one of the first Nebbiolo Metodo Classico vinifications. It is therefore clear that, without losing sight of traditions, the family's gaze is always turned forward, towards ever more ambitious horizons and challenges. Today Cascina Chicco is a modern winery, with open markets in different parts of the world, and about 40 hectares of its own vineyards in the most vocated areas of the Roero. Since 2006, Cascina Chicco also directly manages 8 hectares in the municipality of Monforte d'Alba.
