DAMILANO AZIENDA AGRICOLA S.r.l – Via Roma 31-12060 Barolo (CN)
Lean, compact and even a little spicy on the close, the Damilano Langhe Nebbiolo Marghe is an accessible, easy-drinking wine that is loaded with lots of fun varietal character. Wild rose, cassis, cherry and pencil shavings are part of that playlist. The wine's lean texture, its primary fruit and its freshness give Marghe its food-friendly edge. This is an ample production of 70,000 bottles.
Medium-bodied red with orange peel, sour cherries, redcurrants, mushrooms and slate on the nose. Firm yet silky tannins here, with a savory and sleek palate. Delicious now.
The most 'simple' and immediate interpretation of the noble Langa grape variety, Nebbiolo. This is Marghe, Langhe DOC by Damilano, a name that alone has been a guarantee of the highest quality for well over a century. After all, in the family's vineyards, the limestone-clay soil is a fundamental characteristic. And this has the effect of transmitting an easily recognisable distinctive character to the finished wine. Ruby red in colour with slight garnet highlights, the bouquet is delicate and characteristic, with hints of violets and red fruit. In the mouth, however, this Nebbiolo is characterised by a rightly tannic flavour and good body. Velvety and harmonious, this is the red to uncork every time you want to indulge in the pleasure of a good, not too demanding glass. On the table it has no problem accompanying simple traditional dishes, from rich Piedmontese hors d'oeuvres to the most classic of Sunday roasts. It is difficult, if not impossible, to be disappointed.
Damilano is one of Barolo's historic wineries with ancient traditions. Over a hundred years old, even. In fact, the Damilano family's activity dates back to 1890, when Giuseppe Borgogno, great-grandfather of the current owners, began cultivating and vinifying the grapes he owned in the commune of Barolo. However, it was with the next generation, with Giacomo Damilano, the founder's son-in-law, that the winery took on its current name. Since 1997, his grandsons have been at the helm of the fine Langa winery. Guido, Mario and Paolo Damilano carry on the work of their ancestors with commitment, making the most of the Langhe's main grape variety, Nebbiolo, and the most suitable vineyards. But the secret of the high quality of Damilano wines is to be found in the vineyards, located in the elective areas for the production of Nebbiolo grapes, such as the Cannubi, Liste, Brunate and Cerequio Cru.
