The history of the Piccini family is closely linked to that of Chianti. What today is a large company was just a small vineyard in the heart of the appellation at the end of the 19th century. That is why it is always a pleasure to taste a Chianti DOCG, like this one, the result of a historic family’s experience.. Specifically, it is a blend of clearly predominate Sangiovese, with a part of Ciliegiolo and Canaiolo, both at 5%. Only the best bunches are selected and sent for the vinification process, which involves the use of temperature-controlled stainless steel containers. This is followed by a long maceration on the skins, to extract all the colour and aromas, during which frequent pumping over is carried out, to obtain a more delicate and elegant taste. In the glass, Chianti Piccini, characterized by its unmistakable label, has a beautiful intense ruby red colour, with intense and persistent aromas of ripe red fruit. In the mouth it reveals itself as a well-structured and smooth wine. With soft tannins and distinct hints of red fruit.
They rightly call themselves "The Italian wine family". After all, what today is an enormous enterprise that revolves around the work of 7 wineries, in Tuscany but not only, and that is able to put on the market millions of bottles of wine every year, comes from a single small plot in Poggibonsi. It was bought in 1882 by Angiolo Piccini who founded his own company with his wife, Maria Teresa Totti. From that small plot of land, 7 hectares in all, the first Chianti straw flasks were produced. The rest is history, work and commitment. Today Mario Piccini, the fourth generation of the family, is at the helm of the company. With him are his sisters Martina and Elisa and his children Ginevra, Benedetta and Michelangelo, all personally involved in the company's activities. Five of the seven estates that belong to the family are cultivated by following the principles of organic farming.
