CANTINA DI CORTONA Loc. Case Sparse Centoia 52/A 52044 CORTONA AR
A Chianti, Classico in fact if not in origin, that comes from a skilful combination of Sangiovese and international vines. Chianti Superiore DOCG, a denomination that boasts almost a century of history, a wine characterised by pleasant drinkability, great freshness, and a deep bond with its territory of origin. In this case, the harvest begins with the picking of the international varieties and ends with the later-ripening Sangiovese, which reaches maturity between the end of September and mid-October. Upon arrival at the winery, the harvested grapes begin their journey with a maceration phase lasting 7-8 days, to best extract colour and soft tannins. This is followed by fermentation and, after racking, malolactic fermentation, which generally takes place in November. This is followed by ageing in stainless steel tanks and bottling. Ruby red in colour with violet hues, the nose of this Chianti reveals itself to be particularly rich, with fruity notes of morello cherry, aromatic herbs and balsamic sensations. In the mouth it is soft and enveloping, with velvety tannins and a long, savoury finish. This is the wine to accompany the classic grilled steak or with tasty cheeses and traditional cured meats. Impossible to be disappointed.
'On a high hill in Tuscany, not far from Siena and Perugia, stands the ancient town of Cortona'. It is with these words that the website of the Santa Cristina winery introduces its extraordinary location. The winery owes its name to the red wine Santa Cristina, the historic symbol of the company. Founded in 2006, over time the company - part of the Antinori group - has become a point of reference for wine experts. And not only. Thanks to the care always put into every process in the field and, of course, the excellent work in the cellar, both with native and international varieties. This gives rise to good local wines, characterised by the same artisanal style. Designed by the Hydea studio of Florence, Santa Cristina has a modern architectural structure, conceived according to criteria of minimal environmental impact while respecting the surrounding area.
