Via di Palaia, 39, 50022 Greve in Chianti (FI)
It is the maximum expression of Chianti from Triacca. It comes from the heart of Tuscany, from the hills of Greve in Chianti, from the vineyards of Tenuta La Madonnina. The Chianti Classico DOCG Gran Selezione represents the highest quality of the Chianti Classico denomination. Introduced in 2013, the Gran Selezione category has higher standards than the other types, requiring a long ageing in wood and the exclusive use of grapes from the winery's own vineyards. This classification guarantees a product of the highest quality, an authentic expression of the territory. The Gran Selezione from Tenuta La Madonnina is made from 100% Sangiovese grapes. The grapes are grown in clayey soil with a high calcium content and develop an aromatic complexity and a beautiful tannic structure that make this wine unique. The vinification process involves maceration on the skins for 10-18 days in 150-hectolitre stainless steel fermenters. During this phase, up to four délestage and daily pumping over are carried out. After fermentation and malolactic fermentation, the wine ages for a long time in 50-hectolitre oak barrels, where it develops complexity and harmony. The Gran Selezione has an intense ruby red colour. The nose reveals a beautiful aromatic complexity, with hints of cherry, sweet violet, vanilla and woody notes. In the mouth it is compact and full-bodied, with soft and sweet tannins in perfect harmony with the other components. The finish is pleasantly long and leaves a sensation of balance and refinement. Thanks to its structure and beautiful complexity, this wine has a remarkable ageing potential. It can be appreciated immediately but reaches its full expression after a few years of ageing in the bottle. Even 10 years. It goes well with the classic Florentine steak, roast red meat, game and aged cheeses.
Today we are in the heart of Tuscany, in the municipality of Greve in Chianti. Here you'll find Tenuta La Madonnina, acquired by the Triacca family in 1969. The beautiful estate covers a total area of 345 hectares, 100 of which are dedicated to the cultivation of vineyards. Originally used as a hunting lodge, the property underwent a significant transformation over the course of a decade, culminating in the first harvest in 1975. Subsequent expansions in 1987 and 1990 helped to consolidate its reputation as a favourite destination for lovers of Chianti Classico. La Madonnina is located at an altitude of 350 metres above sea level, a position that favours the cultivation of high quality grapes. The vineyards are composed of 85% Sangiovese, the symbolic grape of Tuscany, while the remainder is divided between Cabernet Sauvignon (7%), Colorino (5%) and Merlot (3%). This diversification allows the production of wines that best express the characteristics of the territory.
