    Chianti Classico Riserva DOCG 2019
  • A quality wine that fully represents the characteristics of the Tuscan terroir and is distinguished by its aromatic complexity and balanced structure. This is, in a nutshell, the Chianti Classico DOCG Pagliarese Riserva of Félsina, a fine estate located in Castenuovo Berardenga, in the province of Siena, Tuscany. Its composition is mainly made up of Sangiovese, which alone accounts for about 90% of the blend. With it two 'minor' vines, Canaiolo and Mammolo, both at 5%. In this case, the vines grow on soils that are predominantly of sedimentary origin, characterised by clay and marl deposits. And it is precisely this particular soil composition that contributes to the typicality and quality of the wine. Vinification with temperature-controlled fermentation and then, after racking, the wine is transferred into medium-sized or large Slavonian oak barrels for a period of maturation lasting approximately one year. After this phase, the wine is bottled and left to mature in the cellar for a further 6 months. Chianti Classico Pagliarese Riserva in the glass has a brilliant ruby red colour. On the nose, one perceives aromas of ripe fruit, spices, notes of tobacco and black pepper. In the mouth, on the other hand, soft tannins and a light touch of acidity stand out, giving the wine a pleasant minerality. The finish is long and persistent. Good already today, this wine is not afraid to spend a few years in the cellar, even 10. On the table it goes well with meat dishes and in particular with the classic grilled steak.

The history of Fèlsina began in 1966, when Domenico Poggiali bought the farm and chose to invest in the quality of the wine. In the space of a few years, the hectares under vine became more than forty and the soul and organisation of the company also changed. Positioned between the last offshoots of the Chianti mountains and the initial part of the Ombrone valley, today Fèlsina covers an area of about 600 hectares, 95 of which are vineyards. This gives rise to vines capable of expressing the different particularities of the terroir of this corner of Tuscany. After all, the Fèlsina estates, developed over more than a thousand years, still constitute the basic unit of cultivation today. And the main concern is the defence of the natural fertility of the soil, which is safeguarded by working in a context of experimentation ranging from biodynamics to the most modern technologies and innovations made available worldwide. Thanks to this mentality, today at Fèlsina there are several Sangiovese clones and rootstocks planted in very heterogeneous territories. This allows the winery technicians to have, like painters, a palette of infinite nuances and possibilities. Plus woods, fields sown with cereals, olive groves, scrub, ditches and streams, the smaller fields of the hunting reserve cultivated with alfalfa, lupinello, sorghum, sunflower and field beans. Everything contributes to the preservation of biodiversity.
