    Chianti DOCG "Pontormo" 2022
  • This Pontormo from Castelli del Grevepesa comes from a classic Chianti blend. 95% Sangiovese and only a hint of Canaiolo, an ancient traditional Tuscan grape variety. The area of origin of the grapes is the Florentine Chianti. The harvest is carried out by hand and the members of the winery carefully select the bunches of grapes in the vineyard, picking and destining only the best for this wine, those that have reached perfect ripeness and are free of defects that could compromise the final result. For the rest it is an immediate and enjoyable wine that is not aged in wood. Just steel and bottle. The result is a wine characterized by an intense and brilliant ruby red colour, with violet hues that certify its vitality. On the nose you can recognize very well the clear prevalence of Sangiovese grapes. In fact, it has all the characteristics of the varietal, with notes of red and black fruit, accompanied by floral notes. In the mouth it is pleasant, fresh and well balanced. A wine with a nice personality, capable of accompanying typical regional dishes, such as pici with sauce, but also roasted meat or platters of aged cheeses. We'll just have to put it to the test.

There is no area more fascinating and full of history and tradition than Chianti. And a piece of this history is linked to the name of Castelli del Grevepesa. We are in San Casciano Val di Pesa, about fifteen kilometres from Florence, right at the gateway to the Chianti Classico region. Here, in 1965, a group of 18 winegrowers created a new reality. United by a single dream, that of keeping intact the secular traditions of Tuscan viticulture, the territory and the peasant customs. In order to do so, the focus is now on the production of high quality wines, in compliance with the strict rules of the Black Rooster Consortium. Since then, a lot of wine has passed through the jars of the Cantina, which over the years has grown to its current capacity of about 120 member companies, with vineyards that extend mainly in the municipalities of Greve in Chianti, San Casciano Val di Pesa (Mercatale Val di Pesa), Tavarnelle Val di Pesa and Barberino Val d'Elsa. The range has clearly expanded and now includes wines from all the major regional appellations. From Chianti and Chianti Classico, to Vernaccia, Nobile di Montepulciano and even includes a Maremma line, with Vermentino, Rosato and Morellino. But there's no shortage of goodies. Even if the dimensions have changed, the passion that is put into the work of every day is unchanged.
