    CHARACTERISTICS
    • TypeVino rosso fermo
    • Location Tuscany
    • Grapes Sangiovese 100%
    • Sensations It is the sense of sight that is first gratified. In the glass CastelGiocondo 2014 is a beautiful deep ruby red colour. On the nose the fruity notes predominate, ranging from raspberry to currant, with vague hints of blueberry; the elegant floral note that emerges after a few moments is tingling and surprising: unmistakable hints of violet. If you leave it to open, the spicy and tertiary notes due to the long aging are released. Cinnamon, pepper and leather follow each other and on the finish, reminding us of its extreme elegance, there is a balsamic touch. In the mouth it totally envelops and impresses with its harmony, its dense tannic texture and mineral sensation. Long and persistent finish.
    • Vinification The Sangiovese grapes were harvested by hand and once they arrived in the cellar they were subjected to a scrupulous selection. Fermentation took place in stainless steel tanks at a controlled temperature, with frequent racking, especially during the early stages. The wine was subjected to a long aging in wood, where it had the opportunity to mature, refine and balance. This is followed by a period of 5 years in the cellar and a further ageing of a few months in the bottle.

The 2014 Brunello di Montalcino (with 300,000 bottles made) hits a sweet spot. It's not too intense, nor is it too weak. Hitting that balance was not easy for many producers across the appellation, especially in a vintage that threw as many curve balls as this one. This wine offers measured fruit, measured intensity and tannins that are firm but also accessible. Given the large bottle production here, this is a good go-to Brunello for those who want to taste the vintage, but who don't want to get bogged down by anything more complicated.

    • James Suckling 92

Chewy and tannic for a 2014, but there’s sweet fruit underneath with citrus and floral brightness. Medium body. Flavorful finish. Go-to Brunello. Drink or hold.

    • Wine Enthusiast 93

Aromas of woodland berry, damp soil, new leather and crushed thyme form the nose along with a whiff of iris. Linear and elegant, the polished palate evokes juicy red cherry, pomegranate, licorice and a hint of coffee alongside fine-grained tannins and vibrant acidity. It's already approachable but also offers good mid-term aging. Drink 2020–2026. KERIN O’KEEFE

    • Wine Spectator 90

High-strung, offering floral, strawberry, cherry and mineral flavors stretched tightly on a linear frame. Shows intensity and harmony, along with a finely etched structure, ending with a long aftertaste of fruit, mineral and spice. Best from 2021 through 2040.

"Castelgiocondo" Brunello di Montalcino DOCG 2019
    • If the sign that indicates the beginning of the village has the magic word Montalcino on it, a wine lover’s heart jumps in their chest. Here the Frescobaldi family owns a historic winery located near the village of Castelgiocondo. Here, needless to say, Sangiovese is the sole protagonist of the vineyards, which are excellently exposed and cared for with maniacal attention. Located between 300 and 400 metres above sea level, the vineyards of this estate guarantee particularly low yields from which wines of infinite longevity are obtained. Brunello Castelgiocondo is presented to the market only when it is truly ready, that is, after a very long aging in the cellar, in barriques and large barrels. A wine with great structure, elegant, balanced, with intense aromas and great finesse.

Thirty generations and over 700 years of history. With these two "business cards", the Frescobaldi winery presents itself on markets around the world as an absolute protagonist, with the objective of becoming the most prestigious Tuscan wine producer. Today the company can count on an immense area of vineyards. We are talking about more than 1000 hectares, scattered around the most interesting wine areas of the region. The annual production is around seven million bottles and includes all the most important appellations, from Chianti to Pomino, passing through Montalcino and Maremma. Traditional varieties are grown in each area, thanks to perfect knowledge of the specific terroirs. Never more than in this case... experience really does make a difference.
