CHARACTERISTICS
  • TypeVino rosso fermo
  • Location Tuscany
  • Grapes Sangiovese 100%
  • Sensations Montesodi is immediately extremely elegant with its brilliant ruby red color. On the nose it confirms this allure, opening with notes of cherry blossom, violet and hibiscus followed by small, crisp fruits such as cassis and blackberry. The finish reveals an elegant spiciness with notes of licorice and pepper. The minerality is excellent and the light notes of graphite are well integrated. On the palate it opens fresh and develops with density. The tannins are silky and ripe, the finish is long, juicy and seductive.
  • Vinification The Sangiovese originating from the Montesodi vineyard, after careful work in the vineyard, is harvested by hand in 15 kg crates. Further care and selection is paid at the winery; on arrival, the grapes are carefully checked on a sorting table. Berry by berry, only the highest quality is chosen in terms of polyphenolic substances and the health of the grapes. After fermentation, maceration and racking, Montesodi begins its refinement in 30 hl Austrian and French oak barrels, where it remains for the next 18 months, until bottling. The following months of refinement in the bottle allowed Montesodi to express all its elegance and potential.

Dried red plums, red licorice, cedar and dried spices make for a very elegant nose. Full body, tightly wound tannins and a spicy, edgy finish. Good clarity and focus. Drink now or hold.

  • Wine Enthusiast 90

Aromas of coffee, oak, toast and baked plum lead the nose. On the palate, tight, taut tannins underscore dried cherry, espresso and grilled sage. Drink over the next several years. KERIN O’KEEFE

  • Wine Spectator 90

Ample plum, black cherry and wild herb flavors up front are matched to dense, dusty tannins on the back end. This red has power and persistence, showing balance overall, but could benefit from a few years of aging and a grilled steak. Best from 2021 through 2033

    "Montesodi" Chianti Rufina Riserva DOCG
  • We are in the presence of a true Tuscan wine jewel. A bit for the signature, Frescobaldi, which represents the true nobility of wine in the region. A little for the maniacal care with which the Sangiovese destined for this elegant bottle is processed. Montesodi, in fact, is not the usual rustic and free-range Sangiovese. Rather, it is the result of processing the best grapes, harvested by hand and then further selected in the cellar on sorting benches. Matured for 18 months in 30-hectoliter barrels, this red wine guarantees absolute pleasure. In the glass it is extremely elegant, thanks to its bright ruby red color. On the nose, it has notes of cherry blossom, violet and hibiscus. Then small, crisp red fruits and an elegant spiciness, with notes of licorice and pepper. on the palate it is fresh, with nice concentration. The tannins are silky and ripe. The finish is long, juicy and seductive. Its fate? To make our steak even more enjoyable.

Thirty generations and over 700 years of history. With these two "business cards", the Frescobaldi winery presents itself on markets around the world as an absolute protagonist, with the objective of becoming the most prestigious Tuscan wine producer. Today the company can count on an immense area of vineyards. We are talking about more than 1000 hectares, scattered in the most interesting wine areas of the region. The annual production is around seven million bottles and includes all the most important denominations, from Chianti to Pomino, passing through Montalcino and Maremma. Traditional varieties are grown in each area, thanks to perfect knowledge of the specific terroirs. Never more than in this case... experience really does make a difference.
