Produced and bottled by Donatella Cinelli Colombini – Montalcino, Italy
Produced in Italy
Donatella Cinelli Colombini's Brunello di Montalcino DOCG is made, as the regulations require, from 100% Sangiovese grapes. The vineyards, 10 of the 16 hectares available, are selected annually for the production of the noble Brunello. They are located in the northern area of Montalcino, the cooler one. The one that has benefited most from global warming. They are located about 225 metres above the sea, where breezes help make the summer heat less stifling. All the work in the vineyard is traditional and largely manual. Starting with the harvest, which is planned with precision to prevent the grapes from spending too much time in the heat before being sent for processing. This speed allows the quality of the fruit to be maintained intact. Then vinification in small steel or non-glassified cement vats, using a very traditional and delicate technique. Maturation in wood takes place in tonneaux and then, later, in large casks. In total, the future Brunello remains in wood for at least 2 years, but very often this maturation is close to three. After all, this is a noble wine that will last a long time. Properly stored in the cellar, in fact, can easily give great satisfaction for over 20 or 30 years. After all, a wine like this should only be uncorked on special occasions.
There are women destined to make a difference. One of these is undoubtedly Donatella Cinelli Colombini. A woman of wine, a successful entrepreneur and in some respects the very icon of the most beautiful and noble Tuscany. One that enjoys a long history that is lost in the centuries, made up of great families, great estates and above all excellent wines. In short, the Tuscany that every good wine lover likes. The Donatella Cinelli Colombini Winery, founded in 1998, has two estates: Fattoria del Colle in Trequanda, reacquired in the early 20th century after three hundred years, and Casato Prime Donne in Montalcino, used by Donatella's ancestors for hunting and to bring brides on their honeymoons, and which today can count on an entirely female staff.
