Say Chianti and you think of Tuscany. Say Tuscany and you think of the rolling hills of Chianti. The label proposed here by Uggiano is the perfect synthesis of all this. Chianti dei Colli Fiorentini DOCG, this particular denomination represents about 5% of the total production of Chianti. Uggiano's interpretation comes from a blend of Sangiovese, the vast majority, about 90%, and Cabernet Sauvignon for the remainder. A classic blend that adds to the rustic power of the Tuscan variety par excellence, that touch of class that only the noble Frenchman can give. The fermentation and maceration of the skins in the cellar lasts about 10-15 days. Then, after racking, the wine is passed for a short period in wooden barrels of 30 and 60 hectolitres, where it rests for about 8 months. It is then passed into stainless steel tanks, where it rests until bottling. Bright ruby red in colour, the nose reveals a pleasant and persistent bouquet, with clear hints of violet, cherry and sour cherry. All accompanied by light hints of spices. In the mouth, it is harmonious and dry, with a clean, pleasantly persistent finish. If there is a bottle of Chianti on the table, in the kitchen it is a must that the grill is hot and the meat thickly cut. "Viva la ciccia!", as a famous butcher would say.
What does Bergamo have to do with Tuscany, and with Chianti? A great deal in the case of Uggiano. A group of entrepreneurs from Lombardy with a passion for wine made in Tuscany began to shape Uggiano in the 1970s, driven by a genuine passion for the wines of the region. Inspired by Giuseppe Losapio, an oenologist of the French school, the protagonists of our story embarked on a path of growth that in 1976 led them to a first major expansion and the move to the green town of San Vincenzo a Torri (FI), in the heart of Tuscany. Today, new generations have taken up the Losapio legacy, and the discourse on Tuscan wine is conducted with the same rigour, and with a passion that has never waned in Uggiano.
