"Rubico" Lacrima di Morro d'Alba DOC 2022
  • Rubico is a Lacrima di Morro d'Alba DOC. It is proposed by Marotti Campi, one of the territory's absolute protagonists. Grapes harvested by hand, in September, and placed in crates to safeguard their wholesomeness while waiting to arrive in the cellar. Then vinification, in steel, with part of the bunches processed whole, without the classic destemming phase, and using the carbonic maceration technique. This produces a very fresh and fruity wine, which is then added to the remaining part of the mass that undergoes normal vinification in contact with the skins. Then, after racking, follows 3 months of ageing in steel tanks and a further 3 months in the bottle. Intense ruby red in colour with violet hues, this Lacrima presents characteristic aromas of flowers, such as rose and violet. Then medicinal herbs, such as myrtle, and the spiciness of cinnamon. In the mouth, however, it is fresh and fruity, dry and velvety. With balsamic notes, medium body, good freshness and a pleasant tannicity.

Marotti Campi is a 100% family business. Let us start with this fact. The origin is lost in time. What is certain is that in the mid-19th century the Marotti family bought the property in the Sant'Amico district of Morro d'Alba and built the villa there as the centre of the sharecropping company. Little has changed since then. The family is still the same and even in the cellar and in the countryside many of the employees are the heirs of the first workers. There is no better guarantee of continuity. 120 hectares of property, about 53 of which are vineyards, with hilly profiles and an average height of about 180 metres above sea level. Lacrima and Verdicchio, with plantings from 35 to 10 years old, are the most cultivated vines. Then a small portion of Montepulciano, Petit Verdot and Cabernet Sauvignon are used for the production of non-DOC wines. The decidedly modern wine cellar was built in 1999. It is functional and self-sufficient also in terms of energy, thanks to solar panels installed on the roof in 2010. Respect for nature and the environment are central to the values of the company and the family.
