San Leopardo, Rosso dei Colli Maceratesi DOC, represents the oenological memory of the "Rosso Matelica" of 1800. A powerful and intense red, it is made mainly from Sangiovese grapes, with Merlot, Cabernet and Ciliegiolo. Vines carefully selected in the company vineyards in the Upper Esina Valley. After harvesting, the grapes are soon brought to the winery to begin the long process of transformation that begins with a prolonged phase of maceration of the skins, to extract all the colour, aromas and tannins. Then, after racking, this red wine is matured in 50-hectolitre oak casks for a period of no less than one year. This long period of elevation gives the wine a very special character and personality. It is easy, in fact, to perceive from the first taste the pleasant sensations of seasoned wood. A wine capable of ageing in style, it is already good today but, if stored correctly, it has the capacity to evolve over a long period, acquiring ever greater complexity and pleasantness. Intense purple red with amber tones, it is a smooth and structured wine. An ideal companion for a barbecue with friends, it also goes well with elaborate first courses, such as stuffed pasta or pasta with tasty sauces.
