Colli del Trasimeno DOC Baccio del Rosso is a fresh and fragrant wine that Duca della Corgna produces from 70% Sangiovese grapes and 30% Gamay, known here as Trasimeno Gamay. The grapes, harvested in the best production areas of the DOC, are processed immediately after the harvest and enhanced with a simple but careful vinification, without any passage in wood. The result is a wine characterized by an intense ruby red colour with violet reflections. The nose reveals an intense and harmonious bouquet, rich in notes of fresh red fruit, with delicate hints of vegetables and sweet spices on the finish. In the mouth it is dry, full and elegant. Harmonious and rightly tannic. It can also be served slightly cooler, allowing the temperature in the glass to rise slowly as the minutes pass, revealing new facets in terms of aromas.
Located in the heart of Etruscan Umbria, Cantina del Trasimeno is a beautiful cooperative that was founded thanks to the commitment of the winegrowers of the municipalities that overlook the shores of Lake Trasimeno, and is today one of the most important Umbrian realities. In addition to the classic traditional grape varieties such as Grechetto, Trebbiano and Sangiovese, the winery also successfully works with different international varieties. In particular, for years it has been the protagonist of a study aimed at enhancing the Gamay, also known here as Gamay Perugino or Trasimeno Gamay. Over the years the structure of the Cantina del Trasimeno has grown very large, reaching the point of vinifying almost 12,000 tons of grapes in the early 1980s. So, after an inevitable downsizing phase, linked to the progressive ageing of the vineyards, the winery has literally changed gears, focusing no longer on quantity but especially on the production of high quality wines. Work has thus begun on the renovation of the vineyards and winemaking facilities. The Duca della Corgna line was created with this in mind, taking its name from the Duchy of Castiglione del Lago and its founder, Marquis Ascanio dell' Corgna. Today the winery can count on about 200 members who work with passion on a total area of about 300 hectares of vineyards.
