    • Pessac-Léognan, located in the northern part of the Graves region, is renowned for its gravelly soils, which promote excellent drainage and contribute to the ideal microclimate for viticulture. The soils, combined with a temperate climate influenced by the nearby Atlantic Ocean, allow the grapes to ripen perfectly, giving the wines a refined structure and remarkable longevity. Fantastic red wines of extraordinary elegance and complexity are produced here. And it is here that Le Petit Smith Haut Lafitte, the second wine of the Château of the same name, is born, an estate with historical roots dating back to 1365. Made from a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon (60%) and Merlot (40%), the grapes, from vineyards with an average age of 12 years, are harvested manually and undergo a double selection before and after destemming. Fermentation takes place in vats, with light punching down and pumping over. The wine is then aged for 14 months in French oak barrels, 20% of which are new, produced in the estate's own cooperage, ensuring perfect integration of the ageing notes. Intense red in colour, the nose reveals aromas of red fruit, such as blackcurrant and cherry, enriched with hints of mint and hazelnut. On the palate, it is full-bodied and fleshy, with surprising freshness and a spicy structure. The tannins are fresh, precise and fine, giving rise to a persistent and harmonious finish. Already good today, this red has excellent ageing potential of up to 15 years. It pairs well with meat dishes such as roast beef, lamb or game. Also excellent with mature cheeses and flavourful dishes.

Château Smith Haut Lafitte is a renowned wine estate located in the heart of the Pessac-Léognan region, south of Bordeaux. Its history dates back to the 14th century, when the French nobleman Verrier du Bosq acquired some vineyards in this area. In the 18th century, Scottish merchant George Smith bought the property, giving it its current name and building the manor house that still dominates the estate today. Later, in 1842, Lodi Martin Duffour-Dubergier, mayor of Bordeaux and signatory of the official 1855 classification, elevated the estate to the status of Grand Cru Exceptionnel. In 1990, Daniel and Florence Cathiard, former Olympic athletes on the French ski team, fell in love with Château Smith Haut Lafitte and decided to purchase it with the intention of perpetuating its tradition of excellence. After three years of intensive renovation work, they moved into the 18th-century residence to devote themselves entirely to managing the estate, assisted by a talented and motivated team. The vineyard covers 78 hectares, of which 67 are dedicated to red grape varieties, mainly Cabernet Sauvignon, and 11 hectares to white grape varieties, with a predominance of Sauvignon Blanc. The vineyard is managed according to organic and biodynamic principles, with practices such as the use of organic compost produced on site and the use of horses in the most delicate areas, in order to preserve biodiversity and soil health.
