La Chapelle de La Mission Bordeaux Pessac-Léognan 2020
    • La Chapelle de La Mission Haut-Brion is the second wine produced by the illustrious Château, located in the prestigious Pessac-Léognan appellation, south of Bordeaux. This area is famous for its deep gravelly soils resting on a subsoil of clay, sand and limestone. This combination allows for excellent drainage and optimal reflection of the sun's heat, favouring the ripening of the grapes. Officially established in 1987, the Pessac-Léognan appellation is renowned for the production of high quality red and white wines. The reds, in particular, are known for their elegant structure and aromatic complexity. And the presence of historic Châteaux, such as La Mission Haut-Brion, emphasises the importance and winemaking tradition of the area. La Chapelle is made from a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. The grapes are harvested manually, selecting only the best bunches. After fermentation, the wine is aged for about 20 months in French oak barriques, 30% of which are new, giving the wine complexity and spicy notes. It has an intense garnet red colour, and on the nose it offers aromas of red and black fruits, such as raspberry and blackcurrant, accompanied by subtle notes of fine wood. In the mouth it is opulent, with a juicy and fruity tannic texture. The finish is medium-long, characterised by aromas of fresh fruit and spices, with a harmonious balance between Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. Fabulous already, thanks to its structure this wine has an ageing potential of about 20 years. With time it will develop complexity and very pleasant tertiary notes. La Chapelle de La Mission Haut-Brion goes well with red meat dishes, such as braised meats, entrecôte, rump and beef ribs. Try it with dishes based on black truffle, lamb, duck and game.

Located in the heart of the Pessac-Léognan region, southwest of Bordeaux, Château La Mission Haut-Brion is a name that resonates with prestige in the world of wine. Its history dates back to the 16th century, when the Lestonnac family acquired the property. However, it was in 1682 that the company took on its current name, when it passed into the hands of the Prêcheurs de la Mission, a religious congregation known as the Lazarists, who dedicated great attention to viticulture, rapidly raising the reputation of the wines produced. Then, in the 19th century, the Chiapella family, originally from Louisiana, took over the property, further consolidating the Château's international reputation, and it won a gold medal at the International Exhibition in London in 1862, in recognition of the excellence of its wines. Later, in 1919, the Woltner family introduced pioneering technological innovations, such as the installation of enamelled steel vats, improving temperature control during fermentation and contributing to the modernisation of wine production. The terroir of Château La Mission Haut-Brion is closely linked to that of the neighbouring Château Haut-Brion, with which it shares a terrace of high-quality gravel, ideal for viticulture. These soils, composed of small quartz pebbles, rest on a unique subsoil of clay, sand, limestone and faluns (shell limestone), forming hills with excellent exposure and optimal natural drainage, thanks also to the presence of waterways such as the Peugue and the Serpent, tributaries of the Garonne. The vineyard covers 29 hectares, of which about 25 are dedicated to red grape varieties, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc, and just over 4 hectares are planted with white grape varieties, mainly Sémillon and Sauvignon Blanc.
