Château Figeac, 33330 Saint-Émilion, Francia
Château Figeac, 1er Grand Cru Classé is a small masterpiece from Saint-Émilion, Bordeaux. This exceptional wine comes from a unique terroir, characterised by a mineral-rich gravelly soil and a temperate climate influenced by the ocean. The skilfully cultivated and carefully selected Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc grape varieties give the finished wine a complex and elegant character. Vinification is parcel-based, without the use of sulphites. In the cellar, a rigorous approach that respects the terroir is applied. The grapes are harvested by hand at the optimal time of ripeness and are vinified separately. After processing, the wine is aged in new French oak barrels for no less than 18 months, developing complexity and harmony. In the Château Figeac glass, it has a beautiful deep ruby red colour. On the nose, it reveals a bouquet reminiscent of flowers, such as violets and red roses. Then forest fruits, such as cherries and blackcurrants, mineral notes and hints of black truffle. In the mouth it is full-bodied yet refined and balanced, with fine tannins that lend persistence. Ripe fruit flavours intertwine with elegant hazelnut notes, creating a complex and memorable taste experience. To be paired with important and tasty dishes. Excellent with red meats, game and mature cheeses.
A jewel of Saint-Émilion, set on 40 hectares of hills, Château Figeac boasts a history dating back to the 2nd century AD. Its vineyards, bordering those of Château Cheval Blanc and Pomerol, enjoy a privileged location: a slightly undulating amphitheatre facing south-west, benefiting from an oceanic influence that is ideal for growing vines. In 1892, Château Figeac was purchased by André Villepigue and his wife Henriette de Chèvremont, who relied on the expertise of Albert Macquin to modernise the estate and combat phylloxera. Then, in 1947, Thierry Manoncourt took over the reins of the estate, ushering in an era of innovation and respect for the environment. A far-sighted agricultural engineer, Manoncourt introduced new viticulture and winemaking techniques, while maintaining a deep respect for terroir and biodiversity. His efforts were rewarded in 1955, when Château Figeac was awarded the title of Premier Grand Cru Classé in the renewed classification of Saint-Émilion wines.
