Chateau Cantemerle
The Haut-Médoc appellation represents almost a third of the Médoc grape variety. We are, just for the avoidance of doubt, in the heart of the Bordeaux region, where the variety of soils represents one of the most important assets available to wineries (or rather Château), allowing the production of wines characterised by different styles. All, however, united by a common balance and a simply harmonious bouquet. A fine example of this is this Château Cantemerle, Grand Cru Classé. Son of the Haut-Médoc region, this Bordeaux red is the result of processing the region's main grape varieties. In particular, 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 21% Merlot, 9% Cabernet Franc and 5% Petit Verdot. Matured in small oak barrels, this thoroughbred Bordeaux presents itself in the glass with a beautiful intense ruby red colour, with delicate garnet hues. The nose is surprising for the freshness of its aromas, which range from dark fruit, such as blackcurrant and kirsch, to delicate hints of dried blood orange, then liquorice and even cocoa. In the mouth, however, it is pleasantly structured, medium-bodied, with well-integrated and finely polished tannins. Structured and toned, it is also surprisingly fresh and lively in the mouth, rich in spices and hints of Mediterranean herbs. The finish is persistent. Excellent already today, this red has nice ageing potential. Perfect as a wine for the whole meal, it needs to be paired with strongly flavoured dishes. Try it with main courses of meat, even long cooked meats.
The history of Château Cantemerle is long and literally lost in the mists of time. To reconstruct the history of the 'Lords of Cantemerle', in fact, one has to go all the way back to the Middle Ages, exactly to the year 1147. Situated within the Haut-Médoc appellation, Château Cantemerle can today count on a vineyard covering some 90 hectares. As the experts say, the word that best defines the wines of Château Cantemerle is... elegance. What more could you ask for?
