Château Ferriere Grand Cru Classé Margaux 2019
    • A beautiful reality in Margaux, Château Ferrière is a historic winery in the appellation, but it is modern in concept and in step with the times. It is no coincidence that, since 2015, it has been Bio and Biodynamic certified (since 2018). The proposed red wine comes from a parcel vinification. 70% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Merlot and 5% Petit Verdot. The grapes are selectively harvested at full ripeness and kept separate throughout the production cycle. Alcoholic fermentation is triggered by the action of natural yeasts and is accompanied by daily pumping over to ensure gentle extraction. Maceration continues for about 3 weeks and, at the end of processing, after racking and malolactic conversion, the wine is transferred to barriques for its maturation period. At least 18 months, during which the mass is divided into three parts. Forty per cent is passed into new barriques, 40 per cent is left to mature for individual varieties and the remaining 20 per cent matures in ovoid vats and amphorae. The final blending takes place only shortly before bottling. A red of great personality, this Margaux presents itself in the glass with a beautiful bright red colour and compactness. The nose is reminiscent of blackberries, blackcurrants, violets, bitter chocolate, clay and mineral. Medium-bodied, in the mouth it reveals very fine and well-integrated tannins, a nice structure, well balanced by a clear sensation of softness. This Margaux seduces enthusiasts and experts alike with its freshness and great elegance.

Château Ferrière is one of the beautiful and historic wineries in the Margaux area. The history of this Château, in particular, dates back as far as the 18th century. More recently, then, in 1988, this 3rd Grand Cru Classé was purchased by the Villars family, who began a thorough renovation of the facilities and vineyards. Under the leadership of Bernadette, and then her daughter Claire, the domaine has prospered and achieved increasingly challenging goals. Today, the estate has a total of 24 hectares of vineyards. Ninety-five per cent of the vines are on the Margaux plateau, in the heart of the appellation, where the soils are composed of deep gravels and calcareous marls. Château Ferrière is certified in Organic Farming (AB), since 2015, and Biodynamic, since 2018 (Demeter and Biodyvin).
