Chateau Malartic Lagraviere
The area is that of Pessac-Léognan, Bordeaux region. Here, Château Malartic-Lagravière has a vineyard of some 73 hectares, 64 of which are dedicated to AOC red varieties. This particular wine comes from a blend of 55.9% Cabernet Sauvignon, 41.3% Merlot and a small portion of Cabernet Franc. Selective, manual harvesting of the different varieties that have reached full maturity, vinification takes place in small, thermoregulated wooden and stainless steel vats. After processing, the wine then matures for about 18 months on its fine lees in French oak barrels. Of these, about 65% are new wood. Ruby red with garnet reflections, this Pessac-Léognan immediately reveals very complex aromas of dark berries, mushrooms, earth, flowers and incense. As the seconds pass, then, thanks to the interaction with oxygen, extremely fine and elegant mineral hints also appear. In the mouth, finally, one discovers a wine characterised by a nice body, with fine and refined tannins. Beautiful. The finish is very, very long, with subtle and complex flavours at the same time. Good already today, with the passing of the years this Bordeaux red will still be able to give much satisfaction. The important thing is to choose the right evening, with an all-meat dinner. A roast beef, for example, or a mouth-watering first course rich in meat sauce.
The history of Château Malartic-Lagravière dates back as far as the 17th century, when Count Hippolyte Maurès de Malartic, Admiral to the King of France - bought Domaine de la Gravière. It was only in 1997 that the property was sold to the Bonnie couple, originally from Belgium, who took the decision to invest in the estate, renovating it entirely. Today, it is their son Jean-Jacques who runs the estate, with the help of the famous oenologist Michel Rolland. This is one of the reasons why the wines of Château Malartic-Lagravière enjoy great admiration from connoisseurs all over the world. The Château cultivates its vineyards according to the principles of sustainable agriculture and is certified Haute Valeur Environnementale Level 3. Its vineyard covers 71 hectares, with vines on average over 30 years old.
