Chateau Labegorge 1 Route de, Rue de Labegorce, 33460, Francia
Son of the Margaux region, Château Labégorce is a fine Bordeaux red. This wine comes from a unique terroir, characterised by a gravelly soil, typical for the region, rich in minerals. The climate here is cool, thanks to the beneficial oceanic influence. Born from a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot, this Château Labégorce has a complex and elegant character. Vinification, as is often the case in this region, is strictly parcel-based. The Cabernet Sauvignon gives structure and power, the Merlot softness and roundness, the Cabernet Franc finesse and elegance, while the Petit Verdot adds complexity and longevity. The production of Château Labégorce is characterised by a rigorous approach that respects the terroir. The grapes are harvested by hand at the optimal time of ripeness and vinified in thermoregulated stainless steel tanks, preserving the integrity of the fruit. The wine then matures in mostly new French oak barrels for 18 months, developing complexity. Deep ruby red in colour, the nose reveals a complex bouquet of red and dark fruits, such as blackcurrant, blackberry and blueberry, black pepper and cloves, then balsamic notes of mint and eucalyptus and hints of graphite. In the mouth, it is intense, full-bodied and well-balanced. Well-integrated tannins give structure and persistence.
Château Labégorce probably owes its name to Abbot Gorce. Today it is owned by Nathalie Perrodo-Samani, who also owns Château Giscours and the Alesme-Becker Cru of Margaux. Supported by a motivated and competent team, Nathalie has restored lustre to the Château, so much so that in recent years many of her wines have often been awarded prizes by international critics.
