Château Grand Barrail Lamarzelle Figeac, D 243 Route De Libourne, 33330 Saint-Émilion, Francia
A high interesting red from Bordeaux. This time from the Saint-Émilion area. Château Grand Barrail Lamarzelle Figeac is spread over a mosaic of unique soils, characterised by flint-rich gravel and a layer of green clay that helps maintain a perfect water balance for the vines. This is a blend of Merlot (78%) and Cabernet Franc (22%), a combination that enhances the fruity, soft character of the Merlot and the refined tannic structure of the Cabernet Franc. The harvest, as is customary here, is carried out by hand, with careful selection of the bunches to ensure perfect ripeness of the fruit delivered to the cellar. The grapes are vinified separately in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks, respecting the peculiarities of each parcel. After fermentation, the wine matures for 12 months in oak barrels, 33% of which are new, to add spicy aromas and complexity to the bouquet. In the glass, the wine is an intense garnet red colour. Complex aromas of violets and dark fruits dominate its bouquet, enriched by spicy scents and light toasted hints resulting from the ageing in wood. In the mouth it is soft and fleshy, with a fine and silky tannic structure. The finish is fresh and long, and allows elegant fruity notes to emerge. On the table it goes well with grilled red meats, roasts and braised meats. Perfect with game dishes or mature cheeses.
Nestled in the picturesque landscape of Saint-Émilion, Château Grand Barrail Lamarzelle Figeac is distinguished by the quality of its wines and its meticulous care for terroir. Located on the terrace of clays and flint known locally as ‘Graves de Saint-Émilion’, to the north-west of the village, the winery enjoys a unique soil that combines flint-gravel and blue clay veins. This mix gives the wines elegance, delicacy and an unmistakable structure, making the terroir ideal for the cultivation of excellent vines. The Château is located opposite two myths of the wine world, Château Figeac and Cheval Blanc, testifying to the extraordinary vocation of this area. Since 2005, when the winery was acquired by Dourthe, a path of research and enhancement of the terroir has been undertaken. Thanks to an in-depth pedological study, 16 distinct micro-parcels were mapped out, each cultivated and managed with specific techniques to enhance the unique potential of each parcel. Château Grand Barrail Lamarzelle Figeac is also certified HVE 3 (Haute Valeur Environnementale) and Terra Vitis, confirming its commitment to integrated and sustainable viticulture. Every intervention in the vineyard is targeted and respectful of the balance between the vine and its natural environment. Harvesting is strictly manual, with a staggered harvest to pick each bunch at the perfect stage of ripeness. This artisanal approach is reflected in the wines, which capture the essence of the terroir with elegance and precision.
