    Château Phélan Ségur Saint-Estèphe 2021
  • In the Bordeaux region, Médoc area, and more precisely in Saint-Estèphe, this Château Phélan Ségur was born. The secret of its charm - according to its creators - lies in the perfect combination of a unique terroir and the skilful care of man. The estate's vineyards extend over gravelly, sandy soils that are perfectly drained and kissed by the sun. The temperate climate then creates an ideal environment for optimal ripening of the grapes. Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, to which a small percentage of Petit Verdot is added, add a touch of complexity and refinement. In the countryside, a particularly high planting density favours competition between the vines, guaranteeing high quality grapes. The 'reasoned' agronomic management involves the total exclusion of herbicides and the reduction of phytosanitary treatments, to protect the ecosystem. The grapes, harvested by hand, undergo an alcoholic fermentation of about 3 weeks, during which periodic pumping over and punching down are carried out to extract the maximum from the skins. The mass is then racked into French oak barrels for ageing, which can last up to 18 months. Intense ruby red colour with violet hues, the nose is complex and fascinating, with fruity notes of blackcurrant and blackberry, combined with spicy hints of black pepper and liquorice, and delicate floral nuances of rose. In the mouth, it conquers with its density and concentration, with elegant and refined tannins.

In the heart of the Médoc, in Saint-Estèphe, lies Château Phélan Ségur, a wine estate with a long history rooted in the 19th century. Born out of the passion of Bernard Phélan, an Irish wine merchant transplanted to Bordeaux, the estate has experienced a long evolution, passing through the hands of skilful custodians who have preserved its heritage and enhanced its potential. Château Phélan Ségur is located in a privileged territory, where the temperate climate and gravelly, sandy soils create an ideal environment for growing quality grapes. The 70 hectares of vineyard are divided into four parcels, each with its own peculiarities, giving the grapes distinctive characteristics. The absolute stars of the vineyard are Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, typical Bordeaux vines that express their utmost elegance here at Phélan Ségur. Meticulous care, combined with passion and experience handed down from generation to generation, results in wines of great character and refinement.
