    Château Citran Haut-Médoc 2021
  • Today we find ourselves in the heart of the Haut-Médoc district, north of Bordeaux. This is where we find Château Citran, an estate with a hundred years of history and a winemaking tradition of excellence. Its vineyards extend over some 40 hectares, on very heterogeneous soils. A mosaic of gravel and sand, with limestone and clay. This particular substratum, with the temperate climate typical for the area, influenced by its proximity to the Atlantic Ocean, creates an ideal habitat. Château Citran is a blend of the three noble grape varieties typical for the region: Cabernet Sauvignon (60%), Merlot (20%) and Cabernet Franc (20%). Sustainable agriculture is applied in the vineyard and the soil is worked using traditional methods, avoiding the use of herbicides and chemical fertilisers. Harvesting is manual, to enhance the natural freshness and quality of the grapes. Intense ruby colour with violet hues, the nose is struck by the richness of the bouquet. Ripe red fruits, blackcurrants and cherries intertwine with notes of vanilla, spices and liquorice. Complex and elegant, in the mouth it is soft, broad and fruity. The tannins are fine and well integrated, giving structure and balance. The finish is long and seductive, with toasty notes that complete the sensory experience.

One of the oldest seigneuries of the Médoc, which today boasts no less than 90 hectares of vineyards. Château Citran is now owned by the Merault family, who also own Château Chasse-Spleen. They are credited with having subjected the estate to a thorough modernisation of its infrastructure.
