Within the Bordeaux appellation, Pomerol is one of the areas best known and appreciated for the quality of its opulent and complex red wines. And it is here that Vieux Château Certan was born, an absolute excellence. Merlot in the vast majority, around 77%, this is skilfully balanced by Cabernet Franc (20%) and Cabernet Sauvignon (3%). The grapes, carefully selected and hand-picked at the right degree of ripeness, are vinified with great care. Each variety follows a different course, in order to enhance the special characteristics of each grape variety. Ageing takes place in 50% new French oak barriques for approximately 20 months. This period, however, may vary depending on the vintage and the character of the wine. Thanks to its maturation in wood, Vieux Château Certan develops complex and refined notes, refining its tannic structure and acquiring an incomparable elegance. In the glass, its colour is a brilliant ruby red, intense and deep. On the nose, it reveals a broad symphony of aromas, where black fruits such as blackberry and blueberry are accompanied by floral notes of violets and hints of truffle, spices, chocolate and wet earth. In the mouth, then, it reveals itself to be a masterpiece of harmony and balance. Velvety softness, silky and elegant tannins, and a long pleasant finish. On the table it enhances a meat-based menu. Also excellent with game and mature cheeses.
