In one of the most famous corners of the right bank of Bordeaux, the Pomerol region stands out for one thing above all: this is where one of the most elegant and long-lived Merlot wines in the world is produced. And it is precisely in this small area, one of the smallest but most prestigious appellations of Bordeaux, that Château Nénin is located, a historic property of the Delon family. Alongside the Grand Vin, the company produces La Fugue de Nénin, a second wine that preserves all the identity of the territory, but with a more accessible and immediate style. The name ‘Fugue’ recalls classical music, where a fugue is a variation on the main theme. And that is exactly what this wine represents: a different, younger and more dynamic interpretation of the Château Nénin style. La Fugue is mainly composed of Merlot (90%) which guarantees smoothness and roundness, and Cabernet Franc (10%) which adds freshness and a spicy note. The grapes are harvested by hand and vinified with great care. After fermentation, the wine is aged for 16-18 months in French oak barriques, with a variable percentage of new wood, which changes depending on the vintage, so as not to overpower the finesse of the fruit. Intense aromas of fresh red fruits, accompanied by a light note of aromatic herbs. On the palate it is juicy and enveloping, with ripe red fruits, silky tannins and an elegant and pleasant finish that is easily enjoyable even by those who are not experts. Perfect with meat-based dishes, especially roasts, lamb chops, tagliata or game. It also goes very well with hard cheeses or mushroom risotto.
In the prestigious Pomerol wine region, on the Catusseau plateau, you'll find Château Nénin, a historic estate on the right bank of Bordeaux. Founded in the 19th century, the property has passed through the hands of various eras and families, until it was bought by the Delon family in 1997. The Delon family were already known for managing Château Léoville Las Cases, a famous Second Cru Classé of Saint-Julien. Curiously, Château Nénin is one of the rare examples of a Pomerol cru owned by a great Bordeaux family from the left bank. Jean-Hubert Delon's vision has led to a profound renewal of the property, with significant investments in the vineyard and cellar, while keeping the personality of the place intact. Unlike many Pomerol crus, which are often quite small, Château Nénin covers a considerable surface area: about 32 hectares, of which 25 are planted with vines. The terroir is one of the most interesting in the appellation: a mosaic of soils composed of clay, fine gravel and sand on a base of blue clay, typical of the most suitable areas on the right bank.
