Mercurey 1er Cru “Les Croichots” Pinot Noir
  • We find ourselves in the heart of Burgundy, the land of origin of wines of the highest quality. Here, between Beaune and Cluny, in the heart of what is known as the Côte Chalonnaise, lies the village of Mercurey, which is also one of the most important wine appellations in the region, in terms of the size and reputation of its wines. The Appellation d'Origine Contrôlée (AOC) 'Mercurey' was founded in 1923. Domaine Trémeaux also belongs to this territory and offers here an interesting '1er Cru' Mercurey called Les Croichots. With the indication 1er Cru, in Burgundy, and in the AOC of Mercurey, wines made from Pinot Noir grapes from vineyards considered among the best in the region are classified. Specifically, this Burgundy red is the product of traditional vinification followed by a period of maturation in wood of at least 10 months, of which about 20% is new. In the glass, it has a beautiful ruby red colour. The nose reveals a powerful aroma of dark fruit, such as blueberry and blackberry. In the mouth, however, it reveals a pleasantly structured wine, with a bright acidity that gives it freshness. Excellent length and, above all, excellent ageing potential. It is no coincidence that Mercurey wines are prized by collectors and enthusiasts the world over. On the table, it accompanies a meat menu.

Domaine Trémeaux, Burgundy, village of Mercurey. Gabriel Tremeaux founded the winery in the early 20th century. With the outbreak of the First World War, the leadership of the winery passed to his wife Marta. Later, his son George took a modern turn and concentrated only on the production of AOC Mercurey wines. Today, the winery is run by his son Gilles, grandson of the founder, who introduced the use of oak barrels for ageing wine. Today, the vineyards of Domaine Tremeaux occupy around 10 hectares, exclusively in the Mercurey appellation. The wines produced are still the original ones from a century ago, the quality of which is mainly ensured by careful and respectful work in the vineyard.
