Beaune Aigrots Premier Cru Grand Vin de Bourgogne 2021
    • In the heart of Burgundy, the Côte de Beaune is a land rich in history and winemaking tradition. Among its treasures, the climat ‘Les Grèves’ stands out for its uniqueness. The term ‘Grèves’ comes from old French and indicates sandy and gravelly soils, reflecting the light and pebbly composition of the soil in this area. This particular soil composition contributes to giving the wines a distinctive finesse and minerality. A good example? This Beaune Premier Cru Les Grèves from Domaine Albert Morot, an organic wine made from 100% Pinot Noir grapes. The vineyard, extremely small with an area of only 12 ares (0.12 hectares), is located at the bottom of the slope, benefitting from a microclimate ideal for optimal ripening of the grapes. The wine-making process is based on respect for tradition and the enhancement of the terroir. The grapes are harvested by hand and undergo controlled fermentation, with careful temperature management to preserve the fruity aromas and freshness of the wine. The wine is aged in oak barrels, where it acquires structure and depth, without ever overpowering the intrinsic characteristics of the fruit. When tasted, Les Grèves has a brilliant ruby red colour. The nose reveals a refined bouquet of small red and black fruits, such as cherries and currants, accompanied by delicate spicy and floral notes. In the mouth it reveals a balanced structure, with silky tannins and a pleasant acidity that gives it freshness. The finish is long and harmonious, revealing mineral and fruity nuances. Ideal with mushroom-based dishes such as quiche, rare red meats and medium-aged cheeses.

Domaine Albert Morot is a historic winery located in Beaune, in the renowned Côte de Beaune region of Burgundy. Founded in 1820 by Philibert Jacques Angélique Morot as a ‘maison de négoce’, over the years the company has evolved from a wine merchant to a prestigious producer. In 1880, Albert Morot, the founder's son, took advantage of the favourable prices to purchase land during the phylloxera crisis, and in 1898 he built the current headquarters, the charming Château de la Creusotte, characterised by its gothic architecture. Today, the Domaine extends over approximately 8 hectares of vineyards, mainly distributed over seven Premier Cru of Beaune: Les Aigrots, Les Bressandes, Les Cent Vignes, Les Grèves, Les Marconnets, Les Teurons and Les Toussaints. They also own the Clos de la Bataillère, a monopoly of about two hectares in the Premier Cru of Savigny-lès-Beaune, cultivated with both Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. The company's production philosophy is based on respect for the terroir and on enhancing the identity of each parcel. Since 2015, all the vineyards have been certified organic, reflecting a commitment to sustainable agricultural practices and a winemaking process that enhances the purity and elegance of the wines. In 2023, the Domaine began a new chapter with the acquisition by the family of Guillaume and Sophie Poitrinal. To guide this new phase, the winemaker Pierre-Jean Villa was chosen, with over 25 years of experience in Burgundy and Rhône wines. His vision is to produce vibrant and elegant wines, intended for gourmet enthusiasts all over the world. An interesting fact about the beautiful Château de la Creusotte: during the Second World War the property was requisitioned by the Germans and occupied for a few days by the enemy troops. Despite the difficulties of the post-war period, the company managed to overcome adversity and maintain its reputation in the Burgundy wine scene.
