"Les Charmots" Pommard Premier Cru 2023
    • Pommard Premier Cru Les Charmots, from Domaine Pillot-Henry, is a fine representative of its territory. We are in the heart of the Côte de Beaune, Burgundy's excellence. Produced exclusively from Pinot Noir grapes, it embodies the elegance and complexity typical of the region. Pommard is one of the most renowned villages of the Côte de Beaune, known for its structured and deep red wines. The Premier Cru ‘Les Charmots’, specifically, extends over about 9 hectares north of the village, on slopes facing south-east. The name ‘Les Charmots’ comes from the ‘charmes’, or hornbeam trees that once populated the area. The soils here are rich in clay and minerals, with a significant presence of iron, giving the wines a muscular structure and a distinctive aromatic depth. 100% Pinot Noir, the vines from which the grapes come were planted between the 1960s and 1980s, benefitting from a combination of clay and limestone soils, which contribute to the complexity of the wine. Fermentation in wooden vats and ageing in oak barrels for 12 months, 40% of which are new, this process allows the wine to develop a balanced tannic structure and harmoniously integrate fruity notes with spicy and toasted notes. Pommard Premier Cru Les Charmots has an intense red colour with violet reflections. The nose has a wide bouquet ranging from blackcurrant to white pepper, with delicate nuances of cocoa, roasting and a hint of cinnamon. In the mouth, it is silky and powerful, with well-present tannins that promise a long ageing potential. Try it with game, wild boar or venison, or more generally with stewed red meats and mature cheeses.

Today we find ourselves in the heart of Burgundy, between the Côte de Beaune and the Côte de Nuits. Here is the Domaine Pillot-Henry, a family-run winery with a history rooted in centuries of winemaking tradition. The Henry family cultivates vineyards in these renowned areas, producing wines that reflect the essence of the Burgundian terroir. Thomas Henry, son of a winegrower who owned several hectares in the Premier Cru ‘Les Charmots’ in Pommard, has dedicated over a decade to working as a wine technician. In 2007, he acquired an estate in Comblanchien, expanding the property to the point that today he manages 10 hectares of vineyards that extend between Nuits-Saint-Georges and Pommard. Thomas' philosophy is based on respect for the land and nature, seeking to enhance the purity of the fruit to reveal the unique character of each terroir. He is recognised for a very pure and elegant winemaking style, with wines that offer freshness and finesse.
