"La Pineta" Rosso Toscana IGT 2022
    • Pinot Noir of rare elegance from the hills of Chianti, a land dedicated to the production of great wines... but certainly not Pinot Noir. Yet nothing has stopped the owner and oenologist of Podere Monastero, Alessandro Cellai, from pursuing his dream. And this is how La Pineta was born, an IGT Toscana, a reinterpretation of the Pinot Noir grape variety in an unconventional terroir. The winery is located in Castellina in Chianti, where the combination of soil and climate guarantees the cultivation of high quality grapes. The vineyards of La Pineta, located 550 metres above sea level, enjoy optimal exposure, which favours balanced ripening. The grapes, harvested by hand in mid-September, are carefully vinified, bringing out the special characteristics of Pinot Noir. Vinification follows a careful process. The grapes ferment in a temperature-controlled French oak vat for approximately 12 days. This is followed by malolactic fermentation in barriques, which gives the wine softness and complexity. Ageing also takes place in barriques for a further 9 months, allowing the wine to develop elegance and harmony. The result? A riot of fine and seductive aromas. Notes of ripe red fruits, such as cherries and raspberries, intertwine with hints of violet flowers, sweet spices and white pepper. In the mouth, La Pineta conquers with its finesse and elegance. Fine, velvety tannins support a slender, persistent body, giving a long, satisfying sip with a lingering mineral finish. Perfect with savoury first courses, such as tagliatelle with rabbit ragout. Excellent with main courses of white meat, such as roast chicken or roast turkey.

The Podere Monastero winery is located in Castellina in Chianti, in the heart of Tuscany, at an altitude of about 500 metres. It was founded in 2000 by owner and oenologist Alessandro Cellai with the sole objective of producing a great Pinot Noir. A far from easy challenge for which it was necessary to carefully study the soils and even more so the clones and rootstocks. A very long research work carried out among the most prestigious nurserymen in France. Today, the area under vine is 3 hectares, of which only 1.5 are destined for Pinot Noir. The remaining 1.5 are intended for Cabernet Sauvignon (50%) and Merlot (50%).
