Pinot Noir Valle d'Aosta DOC 2023
  • Pinot Noir is - needless to say - among the noblest vines cultivated in the world. What perhaps not everyone knows, however, is that this vine of Burgundian origin also adapts well to the particular climate of the Valle d'Aosta, where - with due proportion - it is quite successful thanks to the absolute pleasantness of its wines and despite its delicacy in the vineyard. Crotta di Vegneron, in particular, harvests it in vineyards located at low altitude and processes it by blending the best clones. Thus was born the Pinot Noir vinified in red, Valle D'Aosta DOC 2021, carefully vinified and aged in steel for no less than 8 months. Ruby red in colour, soft but with excellent vivacity, the nose reveals intense and persistent fruity and floral aromas. In particular, typical small red fruits, violets and dog roses are recognisable. In the mouth it is balanced and characterised by well-smoothed tannins. The fruity and floral sensations alternate pleasantly, closing with a pleasant savouriness. A wine of great pleasantness, at table it goes well with various local dishes. Excellent with stewed meats and medium-aged cheeses. A Pinot Noir to propose to surprise a friend with a little Italian wine gem.

Not many people are familiar with the quality of Valdostan wines. And that is not strange. So few are produced that only true experts often have the opportunity to taste them. Yet the productions, although small, are often of excellent quality. After all, the area of Chambave, a central village in Valle d'Aosta, located 18 km east of Aosta and 7 km west of Saint-Vincent, is an area of ancient wine production. Even the first written traces referring to wines produced here, at the foot of Europe's highest peaks, date back to the early Middle Ages. Moreover, the soil is perfect for growing quality grapes, with sandy, pebbly, shallow soils rich in mineral salts. This is where La Crotta di Vegneron is located, a young winery consisting of almost 100 'vigneron' who, all together, cultivate just over 30 hectares of vineyards. Their speciality are the wines produced from the particular indigenous grape varieties of the region, without of course forgetting the more traditional ones. Mountain wines, sincere and good.
