Castello di Neive - Azienda Agricola Neive - Corso Romano Scagliola 205 12052 Neive - Italy
Pinot noir is, together with Nebbiolo, among the most elegant wines in the world. Cultivated for 300 years in Neive, there are now those who consider it 'autochthonous'. That being said, the Langhe DOC Pinot Noir I Cortini proposed here by Castello di Neive rightly belongs to the group of 'great wines with an international flavour' of the Langhe company. 100% Pinot Noir, this red wine is the result of extremely careful processing of the best grapes harvested in the estate's vineyards. Fermented at a controlled temperature, in the first stage it undergoes delicate but constant pumping over to extract the best colour and aromas from the skins. This is followed by slow maturation in small French wooden barrels. The result is a garnet-coloured red wine. On the nose, it amazes with the freshness of its aromas, with intriguing hints of small red fruits, well blended with spices and hints of aromatic herbs. In the mouth, however, it reveals itself to be an elegant and persistent wine. Soft and warm, with beautiful, ripe, silky tannins that support it without ever being intrusive. A fine wine, characterised by great versatility. Perfect with a simple hors d'oeuvre of cured meats and cheeses, at the table it goes well with local cuisine. Excellent with white meats, even with sauces.
The Azienda agricola Castello di Neive was founded in the early 1960s by engineer Italo Stupino. It is a beautiful business that is deeply tied to its territory and boasts a property of about 60 hectares, 27 of which are vineyards. A traditional winery, with great attention paid to the care of all transformation processes. The fermentation of the wines, in particular, takes place in modern cellars equipped with all the technology needed to monitor each step to the best of their ability. At the end of the transformation, then, the wines rest in barrels and barriques for the delicate phase of maturation. These are housed within the walls of the castle cellars. A historic place, where the oenologist Louis Oudart began the production of a dry wine, 'Neive', based on Nebbiolo, with which he won a gold medal at the London Exhibition of 1862.
