The Pomerol area is among the most highly rated in the Bordeaux appellation, known for its high quality red wines. It is one of the few appellations, or AOCs, in Bordeaux that is not classified in the official 1855 system. But despite this lack, the wines of Pomerol enjoy a great reputation and are highly sought after by wine lovers all over the world. This is a relatively small region with a wine-growing area of about 800 hectares. We are on the right bank of the Gironde, where the soil is mainly composed of clay and gravel mixed with sand. The main grape grown in Pomerol is Merlot, which also makes up the largest share in the blend of this Château de Sales. Merlot for 79%, Cabernet Sauvignon for 14% and Cabernet Franc for the remaining 7%, this red wine matures slowly in barriques, part new and part second and third passage. Pure, powerful and elegant, Château de Sales shows maturity, balance and freshness. Deep garnet red and compact, the nose is surprising for the vitality of its fruit and spice aromas. On the palate, it is full and juicy, with hints of blackberry, black olive, dark chocolate and even hazelnut. Greedy and concentrated, it reveals silky, ripe tannins in the mouth. Good today, it is a wine that will certainly continue to improve with time. On the table it goes well with savoury meat dishes, medium-aged cheeses and cured meats.
