      Grand Cru Classé Pessac-Léognan 2018
    • Pessac-Léognan is a wine-growing area and AOC, or Appellation d'Origine Contrôlée, located in the northern part of the Graves region. We are obviously in the Bordeaux region, and to be precise on the so-called left bank. Unlike most Bordeaux appellations, Pessac-Léognan is known for producing both red and white wines. In this case, Château Olivier offers an elegant classic Bordeaux blend, with Merlot clearly predominating, giving the finished wine richness and fruity overtones. With him Cabernet Sauvignon, necessary to add the right amount of tannicity to the finished product, and a small percentage, about 2 percent, of another grape variety typical of the region, Petit Verdot. Its contribution is essential to complete the picture, as it adds an unmistakable mineral note to the finished wine. Good even today, this Pessac-Léognan is not afraid of the passing years. It is today, and will be for a long time to come, a fabulous wine for the whole meal. Excellent with game and venison.

In 1867, Alexandre de Bethmann was elected mayor of Bordeaux. At the same time his family bought Château Olivier, which is still run with passion and expertise by one of his descendants almost two centuries later. Far from being gratified by such a long past, Château Olivier continues to invest, year after year, in innovation. Recently, for example, major renovation work has been carried out on the historic vineyards thanks to large investments. Today the estate is managed by Laurent Lebrun, a well-known wine manager, who has been able to create a competent and passionate team around him.
