Chateau Malartic Lagraviere
Le Comte de Malartic represents the second wine of Château Malartic-Lagravière. It belongs to the AOC Pessac-Léognan, one of the most prestigious and oldest production areas. But above all, it is one of the few with the same reputation for the production of both red and dry white wines. We are located in the northern part of the Graves region, on the left bank of the Gironde. The red wines of Pessac-Léognan, produced mainly from Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot (to which Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot and Malbec can also be added), are characterised by their structure, elegance and complexity. 78.2% Merlot, 17.8% Cabernet Sauvignon and 4% Petit Verdot, Le Comte de Malartic Rouge comes from a manual harvest of the best grapes, which have reached perfect ripeness. The grapes are further sorted on a double sorting table before being sent to the maceration phase in small truncated conical wooden and stainless steel vats. This process lasts between 21 and 23 days, depending on the year. In this case, the wines made from the different varieties are blended early, before being aged in French oak barrels, at least 30% of which are new. In this case, the maturation phase continues for about 15 months. Le Comte de Malartic presents itself as a wine with good colour density. On the palate, it reveals good concentration and incredible freshness. There is no lack of balance and elegance. In the mouth, it is long and intense.
The history of Château Malartic-Lagravière goes back as far as the 17th century, when Count Hippolyte Maurès de Malartic, Admiral to the King of France - bought Domaine de la Gravière. It was only in 1997 that the property was sold to the Bonnie couple, originally from Belgium, who took the decision to invest in the estate, renovating it entirely. Today, it is their son Jean-Jacques who runs the estate, with the help of the famous oenologist Michel Rolland. This is one of the reasons why the wines of Château Malartic-Lagravière enjoy great admiration from connoisseurs all over the world. The Château cultivates its vineyards according to the principles of sustainable agriculture and is certified Haute Valeur Environnementale Level 3. Its vineyard covers 71 hectares, with vines on average over 30 years old.
