Let's start with the blend. Clos du Marquis, Saint-Julien AOC, comes from a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, 61%, Merlot 33% and Cabernet Franc for the small remainder. Situated on one of the most prestigious terroirs of the Saint-Julien appellation, Clos du Marquis is an exceptional vineyard, located 500 metres from the entrance to the Léoville Las Cases vineyard. Plants of mature age, capable of producing fruit of great concentration and aromatic complexity. After all, Saint-Julien is one of the most renowned wine regions of Bordeaux, known for the production of high quality red wines, noted for their elegance, structure and longevity. Saint-Julien, it should be remembered, covers a relatively small territory, but in return it is home to some of the region's most prestigious estates. Vivid and deep red, this wine is striking for the richness of its bouquet that recalls small dark fruits, such as currants, but also crushed stone and graphite. In the mouth, it reveals a medium body, and a pleasantly fine and lively character. Good right from the start, it is a red that takes a few minutes to open up completely. Better to uncork it a few hours in advance to let it breathe and oxygenate slowly. Excellent with savoury hors d'oeuvres, cured meats and cheeses, but also with grilled red meats and game.
