Les Pélerins de Lafon-Rochet is the second wine produced by Château Lafon-Rochet. We are located in the prestigious Saint-Estèphe appellation, in the Médoc region of Bordeaux. Saint-Estèphe is the northernmost appellation in the region, characterised by soils that combine surface gravel with deep layers of clay and limestone. This composition provides excellent drainage thanks to the gravel, while the clay retains moisture, protecting the vines during periods of drought. These soil conditions give the wines a robust structure and remarkable ageing potential. Les Pélerins de Lafon-Rochet is a classic Bordeaux blend, composed mainly of Merlot (57%) and Cabernet Sauvignon (43%). Merlot brings softness and fruity notes, while Cabernet Sauvignon contributes structure and aromatic complexity. The grapes come from the estate's youngest vines and are cultivated according to biodynamic principles. Harvesting is done manually, with rigorous selection of the bunches. After harvesting, the grapes are vinified in temperature-controlled stainless steel vats. The wine is then aged for 12-14 months in French oak barriques before bottling. In the glass, Les Pélerins de Lafon-Rochet has a bright purple-red colour. The nose offers aromas of black fruits such as blackberry, black cherry and plum, enriched by notes of cinnamon, dark chocolate and vanilla from the ageing in wood. On the palate, it is silky and balanced, with well-integrated tannins and a pleasant mineral finish. Already enjoyable today, this Bordeaux has good ageing potential. It calls for red meat, game and mature cheeses.
Château Lafon-Rochet is located in Saint-Estèphe, in the heart of the Bordeaux wine region. The estate was founded in 1850 and has been passed down from generation to generation ever since. Today, it is run by Philippe and Nicolas Cuvelier, who are determined to preserve the tradition and excellence of the estate. The wines of Château Lafon-Rochet are known for their elegance, complexity and structure. The estate's flagship wine is Château Lafon-Rochet, aged for 18 months in French oak barrels. Château Lafon-Rochet was classified as a Grand Cru Classé in 1955. Today, the estate produces around 100,000 bottles of wine per year.
