On the steep slopes of the mountain, facing southwest, between S. Giustina and S. Maddalena. The Pitsch am Bach Winery cultivates its Gewürztraminer here. And that's no small feat. The gradients, in fact, range from a minimum of 30 up to 50%. Heroic and sustainable viticulture, inspired by the principles of organic farming. The grapes are harvested by hand and pressed without stalks, after a cold maceration of 24 hours. This is followed by a slow fermentation at a controlled temperature and refinement in steel to preserve the peculiar characteristics of the initial fruit. Thus this Gewürztraminer was born, characterized by a beautiful straw yellow colour, with a clear scent reminiscent of roses and lemon and orange blossoms, with hints of honey. In the mouth it is elegant and pleasant, endowed with a good natural acidity. A versatile and pleasantly aromatic wine, it goes perfectly with white meat dishes and fatty fish.
We are in that remote corner of Italy where, instead of simple Italian, people prefer to speak German. And where the wines have the same style. Here you will find Weingut Pitsch am Bach. We are located between S. Giustina and S. Maddalena in Bolzano, where the vines take root in an interesting soil, composed of river gravel with a high sand and medium humus content. The company has ancient origins, so much so that it was mentioned for the first time back in 1350. Located at an altitude of about 300 metres above sea level, it enjoys an enviable record of about 300 days of sunshine per year. An excellent prerequisite for producing excellent wines. Today, the Pitsch Winery is run as a "heritage farm" by the Schweigkofler family, the eighth generation to engage in winegrowing. Only autochthonous grape varieties are cultivated, from Lagrein to Vernatsch, from Gewurztraminer to Sudtiroler Goldmuskateller. The vineyard is managed in a natural way and the grapes are processed according to traditional winemaking techniques.
