Either you love it. Or one does not understand it. In any case, it is difficult to remain completely indifferent in front of a glass of Riesling. Especially when this noble grape variety of Teutonic origin comes from Alto Adige, a terroir of exceptional adoption. Riesling needs special environmental conditions to give its best. Conditions that are present in the area of the volcanic lake of Monticolo, and from where wines with a special character come from. We are located between 480 and 550 metres above sea level, with optimally exposed vines lying on slopes facing south, south-east. Fermentation in stainless steel containers and ageing on the lees for about 5 months. The result is a wine characterised by a beautiful greenish yellow colour, with intense aromas of white peach and apricot. In the mouth it is very fresh but well balanced. Noble and pleasantly mineral. Excellent throughout a meal, it goes well with light fish dishes as well as with Asian cuisine and vegetable-based recipes. Also a pleasure in combination with goat's cheese.
About 2 million bottles per year. Very high average quality. Around 350 members. These are the numbers, and the facts, that characterise the fine cooperative winery in San Michele Appiano. Founded in 1907 by a few visionary winegrowers, it is now one of the most solid wineries in Northern Italy, with wines that have won awards all over the world. If you think of Alto Adige and its good varietals, San Michele Appiano is a must. Its production, in fact, is dominated by wines made from the typical grapes of the region, from Gewürztraminer to Müller Thurgau. From Sauvignon to Riesling. From Pinot Bianco to Lagrein. All mountain grapes that grow thanks to the mild climate and the unique soils of the vineyards. Today the winery can count on around 400 hectares of vineyards. An enormous area, if one considers the Alto Adige region, but small in absolute terms. Especially when one considers the number of members of the winery. In vineyard management, a team of technicians and agronomists is constantly at the side of each member, offering valuable advice on how to manage their rows. The result is grapes of the highest quality, which are then processed in the winery using the most innovative winemaking techniques to bring out every nuance. Welcome to Alto Adige.
