The vineyards in this case are located in Glaning, the 'cranberry village' in the heart of South Tyrol. We are located at approximately 760 metres above sea level, where the climate is quite extreme and where the Gewürztraminer grapes ripen perfectly thanks to a unique microclimate and soils predominantly composed of porphyry. Here, the plants have an average age of over 20 years and full ripening comes in the first half of September. Harvesting and grape selection are strictly manual and the grapes, brought to the cellar, are first gently crushed and then left to settle naturally. This is followed by a slow, temperature-controlled fermentation phase and six months of maturation on the fine lees in stainless steel tanks. Floralis, Alto Adige DOC presents itself in the glass with a beautiful, intense and brilliant golden yellow colour. On the nose, a typical and refined bouquet, with tropical and exotic notes of rose petals, lime, lychee and orange. In the mouth, the fruity aromas reappear, making the wine particularly pleasant. Dry, thanks to the classic vinification, complex, but also savoury and smooth at the same time. Perfect with sweet and sour Asian dishes or with grilled fish. It also goes well with blue cheeses or a delicate gorgonzola.
For once, the dusty blazon is contrasted with sparkling good humour. The two eclectic brothers, Markus & Thomas Puff, run their small boutique winery near Bolzano. To find out more about them, and their products, one only has to think that... "on the land below Cornedo Castle, not far from Bolzano, weapons were once manufactured for the local squires. Today they produce wines with strong character, real pleasure bombs'. This is what they say about themselves on their website and it is really hard to deny them. Pitzner Winery has five different vineyards, located in five different areas. And the challenge for the dynamic South Tyrolean winegrowing duo is to get only the best from each individual vineyard. And that is how, every year, wine lovers can enjoy a total of 35,000 bottles. A few? Certainly so. But in return they are all very, very good. "In Cardano's cellar, 'little but good is a law that is not disputed. It is appreciated'.
