Marc Brédif's vineyards cultivated with Chenin Blanc are composed of plants that are about 25 years old. Beautiful trunks and roots run deep into soils that have a very particular conformation. They are composed, in fact, of stones, with tuff and red clays. Soils that, together with the unique climate of this region, influenced by the presence of the course of the Loire, allow the producer to harvest healthy bunches every year, rich in fragrance and aroma. We are in the heart of the department of Touraine, in the commune of Vouvray, and the vineyard is one of the Maison's "monopoles". A 100% Chenin Blanc, this Vigne Blanche Reserve Privée comes from a long fermentation of 3 months at a controlled temperature, followed by malolactic conversion. Then, after racking, the wine spends around 2/3 in barrels in contact with its fine lees, and 1/3 in barriques. Only after 18 months is it ready to meet the bottle. Brilliant straw yellow in colour, the bouquet ranges from yellow fruits, in particular pear and apricot, to citrus fruits and notes of dried fruit. In the mouth it reveals a fine structure and a mineral and fruity character. An important wine that requires a high level of pairing. Excellent with fish, of course, it is also a perfect match for white meat dishes or particularly tasty soups. Try it, for example, with the classic onion soup.
Legend has it that the vineyards of Vouvray owe their origin to Saint Martin, a winegrowing monk who settled in this area on the banks of the Loire as early as the 4th century. He came from Hungary and found here the climate and the environment to create new vineyards. Today, the Vouvray area covers no less than 8 communes on the right bank of the river. Among the many good producers operating here is Maison Brédif. Founded in 1893, it is one of the best known and most respected in the region for the quality of its wines. In 1980 it was taken over by Baron Patrick de Ladoucette who, in his very old cellars, about two kilometres long and entirely dug out of the tuff, continues to keep alive the tradition of producing wines based on Chenin and Muscadet grapes.
