Pinot Blanc Vin d'Alsace Vieilles Vignes 2023
    • Richness in the Alsatian sunshine, finesse and elegance in the noblest of white grape varieties. This sentence perfectly captures the essence of Domaine Meyer-Fonné's Alsace Pinot Blanc Vieilles Vignes. The purity and elegance of Pinot Blanc from the Alsatian terroir. Alsace, a wine region on the border between France and Germany, is a veritable mosaic of landscapes, with rolling hills, terraced vineyards and picturesque villages. The climate is cool and dry, ideal for growing white grape varieties. But what makes Alsace truly special is its geology: a variety of soils, from granite to limestone, which give the wines a unique complexity and minerality. In particular, Pinot Blanc, also known locally as ‘Clevner’. A versatile grape variety, capable of producing different types of wine, from the freshest and lightest to the most complex and structured. The ‘Vieilles Vignes’ (old vines) of Domaine Meyer-Fonné, in particular, are a real treasure. They produce grapes that are more concentrated and rich in aromas. In the cellar a traditional production method is applied, with fermentation in stainless steel to preserve the freshness and elegance of the wine, and ageing partly in wooden barrels, to give the wine greater complexity and structure. Vieilles Vignes has a brilliant straw yellow colour in the glass. On the nose, aromas of white flowers, white-fleshed fruit such as apple and pear, as well as citrus fruits and a slight mineral note. In the mouth it is fresh, elegant and balanced, with good acidity and a long aromatic persistence. Perfect to accompany aperitifs, fish appetisers, seafood, white meats and fresh cheeses.

Hidden among the rolling hills of the Alsatian village of Katzenthal, Domaine Meyer-Fonné is one of the most fascinating and historic wineries in the French wine scene. The history of this family-run business dates back to 1732, when the Meyer family, originally from Switzerland, settled in this corner of Alsace. However, it was at the end of the 19th century that Felix Meyer officially established the Domaine, which has since been handed down from generation to generation, maintaining its authentic family spirit. The transition from a simple wine-growing activity to a real wine production is due to François Meyer, Felix's nephew, who introduced bottling and direct sales in the 1960s, while his aunt, Lucie Fonné, continued to dedicate herself passionately to the care of the vineyards. With the arrival of Felix Meyer in 1992, the Domaine Meyer-Fonné experienced a real rebirth. Felix is today considered one of the most talented winegrowers in Alsace and has given the company a modern twist, diversifying the terroirs and enhancing the Grand Cru, without ever betraying the legacy left by his predecessors. The 18 hectares of vineyards, spread over 7 municipalities, are in fact a mosaic of different terroirs, with vines dating back as far as 1965. Here, the typical varieties, such as Riesling, Gewurztraminer and Muscat d'Alsace, as well as Pinot Noir, Sylvaner and Chardonnay, are cultivated using organic farming methods. In the cellar, Felix Meyer follows a working philosophy that respects natural rhythms. The grapes, harvested by hand, are vinified by parcel and variety, with delicate pressing and spontaneous fermentation in oak foudres or steel tanks. Ageing on the fine lees and the use of large wooden barrels complete a process that aims to preserve the authenticity and complexity of the wines.
