  • Mark Haisma, Côte de Nuits, Gevrey-Chambertin

    Bourgogne Aligoté 2022
  • We are located in the prestigious wine region of Burgundy, specifically in Gevrey-Chambertin on the Côte de Nuits. This area is renowned for producing some of the most elegant and complex wines in the world. The soils of Gevrey-Chambertin are predominantly clay and limestone, characteristics that give the wines a distinctive minerality and refined structure. The semi-continental climate, with warm summers and cold winters, favours optimal ripening of the grapes, maintaining a perfect balance between sugars and acidity. Aligoté is an indigenous Burgundy variety, often undervalued, but capable of producing wines of great freshness and complexity. Aligoté is known for its lively acidity and delicate aromas of white fruit and flowers. A fine example of this is this Bourgogne AOC Aligoté by Mark Haisma, an organic white of great pleasantness. Harvested by hand, the grapes are carefully vinified: half of the must ferments in stainless steel to preserve the freshness and purity of the fruit, while the other half ferments in wood to add complexity and roundness to the finished wine. This balance between steel and wood results in a fresh, vertical wine with a beautiful citric finish that always invites the next sip. Brilliant straw yellow colour. On the nose, it offers subtle and complex aromas evoking white fruits such as apple and pear, accompanied by delicate floral notes and a touch of citrus. In the mouth, it is above all fresh and lively, with a marked minerality that reflects the chalky terroir of Gevrey-Chambertin. The finish is long and citric, leaving a clean and fresh feeling that invites another sip.

Mark Haisma: story of the Australian who conquered Burgundy. We are in the heart of the renowned wine region, in Gevrey-Chambertin. This is where the winery of Mark Haisma, originally from Australia, born of a French mother and a Dutch father, is located. After working for a decade at the Yarra Yerring winery in Australia, Mark decided to head west and immerse himself in the world of winemaking in Burgundy. This journey has led him to become one of the region's most highly regarded producers, thanks to his ability to capture and interpret the delicate nuances of the best crus. Gevrey-Chambertin, located in the Côte de Nuits, is particularly renowned for its robust and complex red wines. The soils here are rich in limestone and clay, with a significant presence of marl and fossils that give the wines a distinctive mineral structure. Mark Haisma began his adventure in Burgundy by buying grapes from trusted, mostly organic farmers. Over time, he developed a profound knowledge of the best plots in the region, vinifying with an expert and elegant hand. Wood is used sparingly, without overpowering the wine's intrinsic characteristics. Mark firmly believes that the true character of the wine lies in the salt and mineral faults of the soil, and is committed to expressing this complexity in his cuvées.
