Weingut Tiefenbrunner Via Castello 4 - Niclara 39040, Cortaccia sulla Strada del Vino (BZ)
Pinot Bianco Merus from the Tiefenbrunner winery: the essence of the South Tyrolean terroir. The name ‘Merus,’ which in Latin means ‘pure, without addition,’ well reflects the philosophy of this wine line, in which each label expresses the genuine character of the grape variety and the natural elegance of the terroir. It originates in the Bassa Atesina, one of the most vocated areas for white wines in Alto Adige. The vineyards are located in Cortaccia and Magrè, where the soil variety favours the aromatic complexity of Pinot Bianco. In Cortaccia, gravelly soils of morainic origin, characterised by a considerable presence of limestone, prevail, while in Magrè we find more sandy alluvial soils. These soils, combined with the Alpine-Mediterranean climate, allow the grapes to reach optimal ripeness while maintaining good acidity, essential for the freshness of the wine. The grapes are harvested by hand and then vinified in cement and stainless steel containers, preserving the aromaticity and freshness of the wine. Fermentation at a controlled temperature is followed by ageing on the fine lees for four months before bottling. In the glass, Merus Pinot Bianco is a brilliant straw-yellow colour. The nose impresses with delicate floral and fruity aromas, among which apple and nuances of tropical fruit stand out. In the mouth there is a pleasant acidity that gives freshness and vivacity, balanced by mineral notes that give structure and persistence. The finish is harmonious, with a long and satisfyingly clean sensation. Thanks to its acidity and delicacy, Merus Pinot Bianco is ideal with light, fresh dishes. It goes well with asparagus, grilled or steamed fish, and with traditional South Tyrolean dumplings.
Today we find ourselves in the rolling hills of Alto Adige, where the historic Tiefenbrunner winery is located. A name that, for wine lovers (Italian but not only), immediately evokes wines of extraordinary elegance and complexity, the fruit of centuries of experience and profound knowledge of the territory. For more than a century and a half, the Tiefenbrunner family has handed down their passion for wine-growing from generation to generation, carefully cultivating their vineyards and selecting the finest grapes. Today, it is Christof Tiefenbrunner who runs the company together with his wife Sabine. Seventh generation of a dynasty that has made quality its trademark. The winery is based in Niclara, in an ancient 12th century fortress surrounded by a vast park that seems straight out of a fairy tale. Here, among century-old plants, a pond and sculptures from the late 19th century, time seems to stand still. But Tiefenbrunner is not only an enchanted place. It is also an avant-garde company that constantly invests in research and innovation. The winery is equipped with a hydroelectric power station that guarantees energy self-sufficiency, testifying to a strong commitment to environmental sustainability. Today, the winery can count on more than 25 hectares, spread over different terroirs that give the wines a wide range of aromas and nuances. In addition to its own vineyards, the company also works with other winegrowers in the area, selecting only the best grapes.
