Are you looking for a memorable sweet wine? Hold still, then. What you find here is a perfect candidate to be so. It is a Premier Cru, according to the 1855 Bordeaux classification. A wine produced in the Sauternes-Barsac area, from a blend of Sémillion grapes, 75 per cent, Sauvignon Branco 23 per cent and Muscadelle the remainder. Historic vineyards in the area, with vines with an average age of 40 years that take root in very heterogeneous soils: part reddish clay, part gravelly and rich in fine calcareous sands. The company's entire vineyard extends over about forty hectares for a very small production of very high quality. Grapes are harvested by hand and left to wither in order to obtain a greater concentration of sugars, thanks also to the 'divine' intervention of the so-called noble rot that punctually arrives to cover all the bunches. After transformation, the wine matures in new barrels for about 18 months before bottling. Golden yellow, its appearance, the nose is characterised by aromas of citrus fruits, such as orange and grapefruit. Then notes of pineapple, peach, vanilla and white flowers. All accompanied by a very pleasant hint of brioche. In the mouth, it is sweet but balanced. Rich and lush. It is the wine to save for a special occasion. Ideal for rounding off an evening of chatting with friends.
Château Coutet became a wine estate in 1643. We are in the Bordeaux region, in Barsac, where some of the best sweet wines in the world are produced, with the appellations of Barsac and Sauternes. Château Coutet has around forty hectares under vine and is one of the largest estates in the area. In the vineyard, plants with an average age of 35 years, in particular Sémillon. Then Sauvignon and Muscadelle. In the cellar, vinification takes place in French oak barrels, where the wine then matures for months before bottling. Today, the maison is owned by the Baly family, which manages it with the valuable technical and commercial collaboration of Baron Philippe de Rothschild S.A.
